One Small Mindset Shift that Will Change Your Day

“Once your mindset changes, everything on the outside will change along with it.” -Steve Maraboli

I checked my reflection out in the mirror as I was getting three inches cut off. “Now I’ll actually have to do my hair rather than just throw it in a ponytail,” I remarked to my hair stylist.

“You mean you GET to do your hair, right?” he countered.

What a small but powerful mindset shift.

Think about that for a moment. How often do you say:

I have to go to work.

I have to go to my stepson’s soccer game.

I have to walk to my dog.

What if you take that expression and change it to:

I get to…

I get to go to work.

I get to go to my stepson’s soccer game.

I get to walk my dog.

Just by changing that one word, you change the meaning behind your words to one of gratitude. You feel grateful that you have these opportunities. You cause a powerful mindset shift, which leads to more positive feelings!

You can make this mindset shift by listening to your inner dialogue as well as the conversations you have with others. If you catch yourself saying “I have to,” stop yourself, and change it to “I get to.” You can also write down little reminders and post them up where you can see them often. After a while, it will come naturally to you.
